Around the Zócalo

In automn 2018, I made a long journey in Mexico. From the capital city all the way to Yucatan, through hectic, delicious Oaxaca and the proud, spiritual heights of Chiapas - 1666 km and a load of bus hours.

I was craving for central-american streets full of colors, contrasts and poetic scenes ever since I discovered Alex Webb's "La Calle" series. I was far from disappointed. Mexican streets provide a stikingly beautiful framework for candid photography. I found there a mix of soft melancholy - empty alleys, gently clouded skies showing up above low painted houses - and constant jubilation, especially in the days around the Dia de los muertos.

This series is an attempt to convey the emotions that I felt while wandering in Mexico’s calles and Zócalos.
